We went to the outdoor ice skating rink downtown on Christmas eve. We were almost there when a mom and son stopped me an complimented me on my sisterlocks. The duo were both loc wears too. We chatted for a while when the subject of who my loctician was and her information. I was happy to pass on the information, because I get an hour free on my re-ti for every referral. I already have an hour earned from referring one of my customers from the pharmacy to my loctician. By the time we made it to the ice skating rink we only had a 1/2 hour of skate time left before they closed. Turns out 1/2 hour was more then enough, we were exhausted and slept really hard that night. I didn't even hear Santa on the roof.

All my life I have heard, "Girl you have a lot of hair". Yes, I do!

To be 100 percent. The pictures with my sisterlocks actually installed in my head took place 3 weeks later. I am not sure why she waited until the first re-ti appointment to take my after pictures, but she did.

These last two pictures are from my three year old's birthday party, excuse the odd makeup choice. I wanted to show a picture of my interlocks at 6 weeks old. I removed them at the 2 month mark and got sisterlocks.They are small and they don't look to bad either, but my heart was set on sisterlocks.

Breaking all the "rules"

So I got my sisterlocks  installed on November 27. I love my babies and there will be pictures posted sometime in the very near future. Here is the thing, my loctician told me not to wash my hair until I came back for the re-tightening in three weeks. She also said that she will tell me how to wash, band & bundle, give me my starter kit at that appointment (oh and take pictures too). This is all contradictory from what I learned about sisterlocks 1. That you can wash your hair the next day(if your want) 2. You get the starter kit the day of your install 3. Your follow up appointment is in four weeks  4. You should have washed your hair twice before the follow up. I am also curious as to why she is taking the follow up pictures 3 weeks later instead of after my install. Maybe she was tired and wanted me out of her chair, I know I was ready to go. The rule breaking comes into play about my waiting until my follow up to wash my hair (it's coming up on Thursday). Well I washed my hair this weekend and I did not band & bundled. My logic is that I did not do it on the tester locks and they were fine. My hair texture is tightly coiled, so I do not think slippage will be an issue. I did notice that my hair has grown a lot. I do not believe this is slippage, unless all of my hair slipped at the same rate. Doubtful right? I have not used the creamy crack for over 10 years and I was wondering why my hair is not longer then it is. I  realize that when I get the micros, or whatever extension twist and braided styles, I see a lot of hair loss in my comb upon removal of the style. This plus having my teen or partner helping me taking out my hair and they are not being careful. My partner did the unforgivable thing one time by trying to save time and cut pass the glued ends on my micros. Uhhh yeah that's my hair sweetheart. Inside I was fuming. Anyway I am happy to see that my hair is growing so fast with the sisterlocks. I am looking forward to seeing what my hair will look like in the near future.

Next Saturday I will be getting my sister locks. I am so excited and can not wait for it to happen. I will be post pictures I promise. What I have decided to do this week is to take out my hair and put them in twisties as I go along. In the past I would come home from work on Friday, spend time with the family, finish my homework,  take out my hair, wash it, and sometimes blow dry it straightish. I had an epiphany yesterday that I do  not have to wait until Friday to start taking down my hair (and spend all of Saturday sleepy and grumpy). I came to realize that, hay, this is all my real hair and nothing added on. It might be a pain to take out my current locs, but spreading the love and struggles might be a good thing to do. I also think that I will be less prone to ripping out my hair if I can spend more time doing it. I will do a wash today, start removing, twisting the loose hair, and then a wash on Friday. Then I'm done.

Did I say/do something wrong Ms. Lady?

I have had my share of hair drama in the past, so I wanted to make my sisterlock experience as drama free as possible. My first step in the process was to find a loctician. I emailed three trainees from the sisterlock website and got a response from two. I made an appointment with the first loctician. I liked her personality, hours and price. What I did not like was that I was going to be her first loc-instillation on her own. I am a busy girl and I was more than a little worried about a newbie having her hands in my head for who knows how long (days, weeks, or however long it took to finish). Well I did the consult and she put in my tester locs and told me I had to wait for 6 weeks before the install. Six weeks! I thought it was a 2 week waiting period, but what do I know. She said that she had double checked after seeing my reaction and there is recommended six weeks wait. After some soul searching I decided that maybe I should do a consult with the other loctician. I really did not want to regret my decision and chose the first person I met with. The second loctician was nice, had the experience the first person was lacking, the pictures of clients that I required, and she showed me her work on the practice head. Those are three important things that the first loctician could not give me (they were both nice). The downside is that she rarely does weekends, lives a little bit further then the first lady, and she cost a lot more money. The second loctician knew that I went to someone else first and had no problem with giving me some time to make up my mind. She put in my tester locs and I was out the door. Does everyone knows about the rule of three? Out of the three things; cheap, fast, and good, you will rarely get all three. You might get two, but rarely three. You have to decide what you are willing to let go of. I know the second lady was not going to be cheap, her work looked good, and I think out of the two locticians she might be faster. The first loctician was cheap, but who knows which one of the other two things I was going to get. I chose loctician number two of course. I sent loctician number one an email explaining that I was going to have another person do my instillation and that I hope that I could use her in the near future for re-tightening. What I got back from her was a dear Jane email that basically said thanks but no thanks.I hope there is no hard feelings on her part and I also hope that I did not offend her.

A very hairy situation

I will be getting my sisterlocks in 2 weeks. The weekend I get them installed is also the weekend of my finals at University of Phoenix. I work 40 hours a week and I have two kids, so the weekend is the my school time. I am trying to figure out how the heck I am going to be able to do two finals while I am getting my hair done (I do Phoenix on line). I talked to the loctician and asked her if she had wifi, but she wasn't sure what the password was for her wifi. Darn! I will be coming home from work on the Friday before my instillation and will spend that evening taking out and washing my hair. Saturday and Sunday I will be spending a lot of time in the loctician's chair. I am going to try to do my math final on Thanksgiving and fit in the other final when I can. It is all very stressful. Changing the date is not the answer, my loctician does not usually work on the weekend and I work weekdays. With the holidays coming up, if I do not get my hair done now I am not sure when I can get it done. I also am in need of a reti of my current locs. I do not want to pay for a reti today when that money could go towards my new sisterlocks. Right now my hair will not be too difficult to take out, but it might end up taking me longer to remove my locs after I do the reti. Oh well, I will go with the flow and do my best.

And so it begins

In August I decided to get locs but, I was not truly ready to commit to wearing my own hair. I wanted locs but, I wanted the length right now. What I ended up doing was getting locextensions and I regretted it. I spent a lot of money buying the hair and get the extensions, but was not completely happy with the results. Off to the beauty supply store for more hair and back to the salon. I still was not content. The extensions did not really do well when I washed my hair, my hair felt soggy, and I lot of the extensions fell out. I went to my back up braider and she gave me a reti and fix. At the beginning of October I decided to take out the extensions and do interlocks/nappylocs. I was satisfied but, not completely happy. I wanted the size, versatility of sisterlocks. I would take out some of the locs and try to make them smaller myself, but I was messing up the parts that way and it was taking a lot of time that I did not have. I wanted sisterlocks but, had a hard time justifying paying the money. Finally, I went to the sisterlock website and emailed some trainees and to find out what the true cost would be. Where I am at today? After doing two consults I am now waiting for my instillation on November 27,2011. I will let everyone know how it goes. And so it begins....
